AUGUST 2021
With MN Farmfest 2021 back in person, the UMASH team set out on the road to Redwood County to provide up-to-date safety and health information to Minnesota farmers, farm workers and their families. The showgrounds attracted over 28,000 attendees throughout the three-day event from August 3-5 exhibiting the latest ag products, services, and technologies. The Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center (UMASH) added farm safety and health to the agenda at the UMASH Safety Demonstration Pavilion. With additional support from the Minnesota Farm Bureau and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, UMASH provided up-to-date safety and health information for farmers, farmworkers, and their families to prevent and/or reduce injuries and illness on farms.
Collaborating with partners from University of Minnesota Extension, Progressive Agriculture Safety Days, South Central College, and Forada Fire Department, the UMASH’s Safety Demonstration Pavillon featured live Safety Demos on the topics of Grain Bin Handling Safety, Tractor Rollover Rescue, ATV/UTV Safety, and PTO Hazards. Inside our safety exhibitor tent AgriSafe Network and the Great Plains Center for Agricultural Health engaged with attendees sharing information on farm related safety and health topics and both youth and adults put their farm safety knowledge to the test at our UMASH Farm Safety Wheel for a chance to win UMASH swag and giveaways. In addition, the Minnesota Department of Health provided COVID-19 vaccination all day on Wednesday, August 4th.
