North Dakota “Rounds Up” for Farm Safety

North Dakota “Rounds Up” for Farm Safety

The Lake Region Extension Round Up was held January 9 and 10, 2018 in Devils Lake North Dakota. Carol Peterson and graduate student Megan Schossow represented UMASH at this event along with Ellen Duysen from the Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (CS- CASH). This was our second outreach opportunity to North Dakota where 450 people attended to participate in seminars and interact with various exhibitors.

UMASH and CS-CASH addressed the farm safety issues central to farmers in the area, including roadway safety, ATV safety, heat related illness, hearing and respiratory protection. A highlight for UMASH was interacting with booth visitors on proper equipment lighting. Visitors were encouraged to enter our raffle to win a set of magnetic emergency flashers.

Collaborating with North Dakota Extension is an excellent opportunity to reach a greater population in the Upper Midwest. We were able to establish more connections with agricultural safety and health professionals and build communication channels for farm safety.
