Everyone’s Invited SROC Holds Annual Open House

The Southern Research and Outreach Center (SROC) is one of 10 centers affiliated with the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS). These centers are located in communities across the state and support research and outreach in agricultural production, human health, renewable energy and the environment.

The SROC open house is an opportunity for the general public to visit the “farm” and learn more about the work being accomplished. The event was held September 12, 2019 from 4 – 8 PM. It was a soggy day, but that did not stop people from participating. UMASH was a part of this event and reached a number of youth and adults, who may not be familiar with agriculture and the inherent risks associated with farming.

Carol Peterson focused the time at SROC with Agriculture Education resources for teachers, promoted National Farm Safety and Health Week ( September 15 – 21, 2019) and engaged everyone in learning more about safety and health topics with the Safety Wheel. The SROC open house is a good occasion to meet farmers and non farmers with safety information to increase awareness of the risks – whether you own, work or visit a farm.
