Personal Safety and Health

Farming is one of the most physically dangerous occupations.

According to 2017 CDC data, the agriculture industry sees more than 20 deaths per 100,000 workers each year, resulting from work related incidents. It is also mentally and emotionally challenging where economic, social and environmental factors confront farm and rural communities. While there is no easy and accessible solution for all ag workers when addressing their physical and mental health, it is important to recognize and address concerns as best as possible. To help, UMASH has compiled various resources for issues related to both physical and mental health and safety.
