Making Progress: Farm Progress Show back in 2022

SEPTEMBER 2022

The 2022 Farm Progress Show (August 31 to September 1, 2022) was back in action in Boone, Iowa for the first time following a four-year hiatus due to COVID-19. UMASH was fortunate to be part of the show, where attendance is one of the largest in the country!

In the Health and Safety tent, UMASH’s Carol Peterson interacted with show attendees and promoted health and safety resources on topics including needlestick prevention, heat illness, and more. She joined fellow Agricultural Center partners, including Marsha Cheyney from the Great Plains Center for Agricultural Health and Ellen Duysen from the Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health.

Highlights on this year’s Farm Progress showgrounds included:

  • Sharing resources, like UMASH’s Farm Safety Checks, which provide a quick review to prevent potential farm hazards
  • FFA Day, where we were able to talk to young people about the importance of safety on the farm and offered resources for possible projects and papers
  • Promoting other safety and health booths, including Extension, AgrAbility, and clinical nursing staff who provided blood pressure screenings and trauma care

We ended our time with pie and homemade ice cream for breakfast on the last day from the Pie Lady…a fitting way to bid farewell to a successful show.
