Living the Organic Life

The Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES) was held February 21 – 23, 2019 in La Crosse, WI. This conference draws approximately 3000 people which is the country’s largest conference on organic and sustainable farming. The mission of MOSES is educating farmers about organic and sustainable production.

Megan Schossow and Carol Peterson presented at one of the Roundtable sessions. These educational sessions are a time to interact with participants on a topic of interest and discuss with each other. Our topic was “How Safe is Your Farm” and we discussed with participants their safety concerns, where they receive safety information and the role of UMASH in prevention education for farmers.

We asked participants for input on the Farm Safety Check and additional topics they see relevant to their operation. This was a good time to connect with non traditional farmers on their perspectives on safety. Providing outreach and our educational resources was a great way to work with organic farmers and bring awareness of safety their unique needs. UMASH is looking forward to using this information to develop additional resources – helping these farmers to safely live the organic life
